New Delhi: It's been more than a year-and-a half since Singur - a small block in the Hoogly district of West Bengal - became headline news. And even though the High Court has ruled in favour of the Tata plant, protests are still far from over.
There have been reports of fresh clashes between villagers and the police at the TATA Motors small car project site in Singur, West Bengal. Farmers opposed to land acquisition for the project clashed with the police on Friday afternoon.
This was during a visit to the plant site by the Tata Motors' Managing Director, Ravi Kant.
Police was forced to fire teargas shells and used batons to beat back the protestors.
The Tatas are planning to roll out the first batch of their most ambitious Rs 1 lakh car, Nano, from the Singur plant by October.
