DLF Project (Dankuni, West Bengal)
Singur deadlock may be over but its fallout has left DLF's Rs 33,000 crore project in Dankuni in limbo. The country's largest real estate developer still does not have the land and has even threatened to pull out .
So far the West Bengal government has acquired 20 acres out of the 4,840 acres land required for the project.
Posco Steel (Orissa)
Touted as India's largest foreign direct investment project worth $12 billion, South Korea's Posco Steel project in Orissa is also stuck as farmers continue to oppose. Although the Supreme Court has cleared the diversion of 3,097 acres of forest land for the project, protestors have threaten to continue their agitation.
TATA's Titanium Project (Tamil Nadu)
While East may have gained notoriety as an industry-unfreindly region, even in traditional investment destinations like the South, have had their share of problems.
The latest is Tata Steel's Titanium Dioxide project in Turunveili, Tamil Nadu. Sources from Tata Motors have told Network18 that the Rs 2,500 crore project is stuck over the acquisition of 10,000 acres of farm land.
Maharashtra's SEZ Projects
The progress of the much hyped Special Economic Zone projects in Maharashtra has slowed down due to the opposition by villagers demanding adequate compensation.
At the stake are Mukesh Ambani's Rs 40,000-crore SEZ among others.
After the Singur debacle , most experts feel the need of the hour is a new unambiguous land acquisition law to ensure twin goals and of compensation and industrialisation are met without controversy.
