Six child labourers rescued, agent held

BALASORE: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Monday evening rescued six child labourers from Balasore railway station and detained an agent.

 The children in the age group of 10 to 12 were to be trafficked to Madurai. They were waiting to board the Howrah-Kanyakumari Express.

 Suspicious over the movement of the children at the railway station, RPF personnel took them into custody along with the agent who was leading them.

 Biswal said during interrogation, the children said that they belonged to Basudevpur area of Bhadrak district and  agent Hrushikesh Sahu was taking them to Madurai to engage them as contract labourers in a construction site.

Arrested for Rape

One Gurupada Mallick (52) was arrested by Soro police on Monday for allegedly raping a woman in Asimila village under Bahanaga village here. He was produced in court which remanded him in judicial custody.

 Police said the incident took place when the victim was asleep in her house on Sunday night.

NO BREAKTHROUGH: In another incident, Soro police are yet to make any headway into the burglary and rape attempt that took place in Sirapur village here on Friday night.

 According to a case filed by the victim, six unidentified persons tried to rape her before robbing her of cash and gold ornaments at her residence.

 Police said a manhunt had been launched to nab the miscreants.
