Ullhasnagar (Mumbai): Buddhists have a special reason to rejoice apart from Wednesday being Lord Buddha's 2,550 birthday - Buddha's relics contained in a silver urn was brought to India all the way from Sri Lanka.
"The Sri Lankan government is very happy to help spread the message of Buddha in India. We feel it is our moral duty to spread his message of peace,” Counsel General, Consulate General of Sri Lanka, H M Wijeratne said.
The relics will be on display at different locations in and around Mumbai till May 6.
"First it will be on display in Mumbai then it will be taken to other places like Ullhasnagar and Kalyan,” RPI (A) leader, Ramdas Athawle said.
This is also special because come October 14 and Buddhists will once again get together to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the day on which Babasaheb Bheemrao Ambedkar adopted Buddhism.
