New Delhi: A day the after slain Jharkhand cop Francis Induwar's son pledged revenge on the Naxals for brutally beheading his father, the family now says that it wants to forgive the killers.

"I will kill those who killed my father," the shattered, distraught and disillusioned son had said at the father's funeral.

Maoists beheaded Jharkhand police inspector Francis Induwar, who was abducted by them a week before they killed him. Naxalites had abducted him, demanding the release of three of their arrested leaders, including Kobad Ghandy, in exchange for him.

Three days since the gruesome tragedy of death, the brave cop's family is slowly coming to terms with facts that changed their lives forever. Hate for the killers is slowly giving way to forgiveness.

"I have forgiven them and want to be a priest or a police officer," said the son of the cop.

Even as fresh promises of help keep pouring in, there is one thing the family is not willing to forgive or forget. They say that the Jharkhand police showed total apathy after Induwar was abducted by the Maoists and even failed to nab his killers even after three days have passed since the cop was found killed.

"When the Andhra chief minister (YSR Reddy) went missing, the entire state got into action. My husband was a nobody, didn't have the means and therefore the police didn't take action," said the distraught widow.

Police believe that a Maoist commander named Kundan Pahan who got Induwar abducted and killed. Pahan a 28-year old Naxal who operates in the Dundu-Tamar block of Khunpi district of Jharkhand.

He is accused in 70 murder cases including that of a DSP and an MP. On the radar of the Jharkhand police since 2005, after a daring loot of Rs 5 crore from an ICICI bank van, police say the task to arrest Pahan is made difficult by the local population that is sympathetic to the outlawed Naxal and a difficult terrain that affects access to his hideouts.

The DIG of police, RK Malik said that investigations are on in the case of Induwar's abduction and subsequent death. Police say they have sent a team for the same.
