"It's the most extraordinary place I've ever been..a wonderful opportunity for a filmmaker," says director, Danny Boyle.
"I mean it's hard not to fall in love with Mumbai, you know. I mean, if you're a human, it's a massive target to humanity. In Mumbai, you're surrounded by other people so you're bound to love it I think," says actor Dev patel.
After screenings at Festivals the film went on to win the People's Choice Award at Toronto apart from starting off an Oscar buzz at the Telluride and London Festival.
Adapted from writer Vikas Swarup's novel Q&A, Slumdog Millionaire revolves around a Mumbai street kid Jamal who's at the verge of winning the Rupees 2 crore prize money on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire - only to be taken in by the cops on allegations of cheating on the show.
There after each back story on how Jamal knew each answer - reveals his past. Though Slumdog's main protagonists are newcomers Dev Patel and Freida Pinto, it also stars known faces such as Irrfan Khan & Anil Kapoor.
"If the film is appreciated all over the world, I think whole credit should go to Danny Boyle. And the entire technicians and the scriptwriter. We are just a small part of a larger picture. So I'm proud that I'm a small part of the larger picture of the film," says actor Anil Kapoor.
The film has already received rave reviews from the media as diverse as Time Magazine and Rolling Stone with The Hollywood Reporter also calling it the most unlikely contender for the Academy Awards this year.
