Mumbai: Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina Ali has been rendered homeless after the Mumbai municipal authorities demolished her house built on railway land.
Rubina who once walked the red carpet at Los Angeles and movie premieres across the world after starring in the Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionaire stood by helplessly as bulldozers demolished her home in Mumbai's Garib Nagar slum on Wednesday.
"We have no other place to live so we have to stay here," said Rubina.
"I have been telling them that these are old homes and not to demolish it. But they did not listen. They have got bulldozers to raze the clusters. They are not doing anything to the illegal clusters on the other side," said Rubina's father Rafique Ali.
The government had promised Rubina and other child stars of Slumdog Millionaire a house, but her family had refused, saying the proposed locality didn't suit them.
