Mumbai: Life for 39-year-old Raj Acharya hasn't been the same since Slumdog Millionaire. Raj who was the first assistant director on the film is elated about Slumdog's critical and commercial winning streak worldwide, and now he's got something more to smile about, thanks to director Danny Boyle.
“He was talking to one of the papers in London. I think London paper or somebody asked him what would you do if you win the million pound award. I don’t what how he remembers the talk that I had with him once. So he said that he will give it to Raj Acharya so that he can do something with the slum kids and all. That was good,” Raj said.
Raj, who has been a part of the film industry for the almost 19 years, has worked on several Bollywood and Hollywood projects including Chalte Chalte, Kuch Na Kaho, Mistress of Spices and One Night With The King.
So though it remains to be seen if Raj gets richer by a million pounds, but thanks to the Slumdog sensation his dream of making a directorial debut might just be around the corner.
“Before Slumdog and after Slumdog also, I have been trying to make a feature film. But I haven’t had much time because I have been busy. And now am again trying to focus on my feature. So fingers are crossed. Hopefully it might happen soon,” Raj said.
For now Raj is looking forward to meeting Danny and the Slumdog team again when they arrive to attend the Mumbai premiere of the film next week.
