New Delhi: Maharashtra Governor SM Krishna is all set to leave the Raj Bhavan and return to active politics in Karnataka as the face of the Congress party in the state polls.

CNN-IBN has learnt that the former Karnataka chief minister could be back in his home state as early as next month.

With the Cabinet having given the go ahead for delimitation, elections in Karnataka are now likely to be held in October or November.

That will give Krishna almost six months to get the badly divided Congress state organisation back on track.

Krishna is no stranger to controversy. Under his chief ministership the rebellion and factionalism within the Karnataka unit of the Congress had reached an all time high.

Now there are several factions owing allegiance to top leaders like former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah, present state unit president Mallikarjun Kharge and the latest entrant into the congress MP Prakash.

But there's still some opposition by the likes of M Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes, Margaret Alva and CK Jaffer Sharief.

They have reportedly expressed their opposition to the return of Krishna, arguing that it is Kharge as a Congressman and Dalit leader can take on the Bahujan Samaj Party.
