Panaji (Goa): It is election time in Goa and everyone's promising to save the green paradise.
From Sudin Dhavalikar of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, which ruled Goa after its liberation, to former chief minister Churchill Alemao, many a heavyweight is expecting a key role in forming the next government in the state.
“What does politics mean? It means giving a good government to the people. But they have ruined Goa in the last two years,” said President of Save Goa Front, Churchill Alemao.
Goans have a tradition of voting a hung house and indications are that it could be a hung Assembly this time as well.
No wonder, smaller parties are expecting to make a killing after the polls.
“I don’t think the BJP or the Congress is in a position to win with a clear majority,” said Editor of Gomantak Sanjay Dhavalikar.
Apart from smaller parties, there are others like controversial ex-minister Babush Monserrat who is now contesting on the United Goans Democratic Party ticket and former Goa Congress president Nirmala Sawant who is in the fray as an independent.
Experts believe the presence of many a stalwart in the electoral fray just means that it won't be a smooth ride to power for the national parties once again in Goa.
With major parties like the Congress and the BJP trying to grab maximum seats in upcoming election, it seems that the smaller parties will make a big difference after election.
Everyone feels that these factors will be decisive after the election.
