Smaller parties up against Cong in Arunachal

Itanagar: The upcoming Assembly elections in Arunanchal Pradesh seems to smell like trouble for the Congress party.

Smaller parties are up against the party in the state and it seems its going to be quite an uphill task for the Congress this time.

The unlikeliest of political symbols are trying to find a foothold in Arunachal Pradesh this Assembly election.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Janata Dal (United) JD(U) and the Trinamool Congress (TC) are all hoping to win in the state polls. But for regional parties like the Peoples' Party of Arunachal (PPA) taking on the might of the Congress is an uphill task.

President, PPA Kamen Ringu said, "It is an uphill task because they may not be able to unite. They may even try to enter in their own way to Congress again."

In the last Assembly session, all 9 opposition MLAs defected to the Congress.

General Secretary, BJP Tai Tagak said, “It has been the culture of the Congress to divide and rule. That's nothing new.”

Congress, President Nabam Tuki said, “Regional parties exist but have not been able to field candidates even for 60 seats.”

The Prime Minister's promise of a package for Arunachal's development has favoured Congress candidates in this election.

For smaller parties, not speaking in a single voice and apparently trying to stop the Congress tid, the task as of now seems an uphill one.
