Click to play videoNew Delhi: Pinky, a shy eight-year-old from the small hamlet of Rampur Dahaba in Varanasi might finally get to see the Oscar-nominated documentary Smile Pinky.
Smile Pinky is a 39-minute-long documentary film that has been nominated for an Oscar in the short documentary category. The film chronicles the young girl’s struggle from ostracism to acceptance following a cleft lip correction surgery.
Now Pinky, her family and her doctor are all set to rub shoulders with international glitterati. The family announced that they will be walking the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles for the Academy Awards ceremony.
Pinky’s doctor plastic surgeon Dr Subodh Kumar Singh said, “Me and Pinky’s family will be going there most probably. If not all then we are hoping that atleast Pinky and her father can be there.”
As for Pinky's father, Rajendra Sonkar, his ambition of educating Pinky, it seems, will finally see the light of day.
“I always wanted her to go to school. She used to refuse earlier but after the surgery she now goes,” Rajendra Sonkar said.
Smile Pinky is directed by Emmy nominee director Magan Mylan.
