Snowfall in J-K, basic facilities at stake

Srinagar: It is snowing hard in Jammu and Kashmir. While Srinagar is under six inches of snow, at other places in the state it is almost three feet.

4 army jawans have succumbed to the cold in Kuppwara, while another man was found dead in Srinagar.

Life has been hard hit and the Jammu- Srinagar highway is closed. Power, communication lines and water supply has been disrupted.

Nine families were evacuated from the Tuleal area of of Gurez following warnings of an avalanche.

The government was very prompt in snow clearance mission in Srinagar and important towns, but the remote areas continue to remain cut off from the country.

And with met office forecasting bad weather in coming days, the problems of people are likely to compound.
