Mumbai: Even as news channels garnered maximum viewership ratings last week because of the terror attack on Mumbai, Hindi General Entertainment Channels (GEC) are back with new soaps starting from Monday.

“What we have noticed is that people generally come on to watch the GECs when they want to forget about it,” says Content and Creative Head Colors TV Ashwini Yardi.

So if watching the continuous coverage of the Mumbai terror attack on news channels has got viewers angry and frustrated, the GEC are back with new soaps and lots more on offer.

After a rather long break due to the strike by the Workers Federation, Hindi entertainment channels have resumed their telecast of fresh episodes and new content starting from Monday.

"From today (Monday) we are starting two new shows, Uttran which is a story of a girl living in slums, and we also have Jaane Kya Baat Hui, the story of a Delhi based couple in a loveless marriage and the wife has an adulterous affair,” says Yardi.

Apart from Colors, all eyes are also on new shows like Aap Ki Kachheri-Kiran Ke Saath, a courtroom drama, hosted by Magsaysay award winner and former IPS officer, Kiran Bedi, on Star Plus.

NDTV Imagine is hoping to garner some eyeballs with shows like Shekhar Suman's Still Moving and Shaking with Shekhar Suman and Farhan Akhtar's Oye Its Friday.

With the exit of TRP grabbers like Bigg Boss and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and a fresh start for the television industry's workers, producers and broadcasters, it is no doubt a new beginning on the small screen.
