Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat DGP Vanzara who faced arrest in the fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, finally broke his silence on the charges made against him on Saturday. Vanzara said Sohrabuddin Sheikh was a terrorist and the charges against him of killing Kauser Bi are fabricated.
“Sohrabuddin was a terrorist,” he told waiting reporters at the Ahmedabad court. The DGP denied even knowing the existence of Kauser Bi — Sohrabuddin's wife who was allegedly killed and her body disposed off by the Gujarat police.
Vanzara is also held as a co-accused in the killing after the Gujarat government admitted it in the Supreme Court. The Gujarat CID, which is investigating the case, has asked for narco analysis tests on all the three IPS officers—Vanzara, Pandiyan and M N Dinesh Kumar—accused in the fake encounter case.
“These narco-analysis tests are designed in such a way that one normally testifies against oneself. The prosecution has asked for permission to conduct these tests. I've asked my clients to study the application. Obviously, they will object,” said Mitesh Amin D G Vanzara's Advocate.
Sources reveal that the narco tests have been asked for because none of the three IPS officers have confessed much in their interrogation. The court will decide on the permission for narco tests on the May 8.
Although he spoke informally, Vanzara made an important point by saying that he has not confessed to any of the charges against him. This perhaps explains the need for the prosecution to subject the three arrested officers to a narco analysis test.
