CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday announced a solatium of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of 12 persons who were killed in a road accident in Dharmapuri district earlier in the day.
In a statement here, the Chief Minister said the victims were travelling atop of a mango-laden lorry, when the vehicle overturned while negotiating a curve on the ghat section. While 10 persons were killed on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The Chief Minister expressed deep grief over the loss of lives.
Stating that 31 persons suffered injuries in the accident, she said Rs 25,000 each to the seriously injured and Rs 10,000 each to those who suffered minor injuries would be given as assistance.
The Chief Minister had directed the district administration and the hospital authorities to provide best of treatment to them.
