Sold! Liverpool goes ManU, Chelsea way

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Five-time European Champion Liverpool looks set to become the latest English football club to be owned by foreign parties.

Americans sporting tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks had agreed a deal to buy the club's current chairman David Moores' 51 per cent stake in the club.

Gillett and Hicks, who own NHL sides Montreal Canadiens and the Dallas Stars, offered $342.7 million for a majority share holding in the club.

Liverpool's new co-chairmen have offered $430.8 million for the remaining shares and will also pay off the club's $88.2 million debt.

Premiership giant Chelsea was bought by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and Manchester United soon followed when American Malcolm Glazer bought majority stakes in the club.
