New Delhi: Here is a look at the latest health news.

HIV theory may be wrong!

New research suggests that the current theory about how the HIV works may be wrong. A study in the journal Public Library of Science says that if the present theory was correct then the infected human immune cells would fall to very low levels within months and not years, as is the case.

One explanation proposed suggests that the virus adapts itself over the course of the infection. But experts say further research is still needed.

Kicking the bottle

In future it may take just an injection to kick the bottle. Trails on mice have shown that a single injection of a genetically engineered adenovirus can cut the craving for alcohol by 50 per cent, according to a study presented at the American Society of Gene Therapy.

It said that the virus blocked the production of the enzyme needed for metabolising alcohol.
