Mumbai: He is the man behind evergreen classics including Do Bheega Zameen, but filmmaker Bimal Roy still remains a bit of an enigma.

So a new documentary by his son, Joy Roy attempts to throw light on little known facts about the filmmaker’s life.

Bimal began his career as a cinematographer for PC Barua's Devdas and the fact that he was the first in India to use artificial fog for shooting such facts and more, make up the contents of Joy’s new documentary, Remembering Bimal Roy.

Says Joy, “I feel that my father has been underrated as a filmmaker so far. So at least, for students of cinema and other interested people, I wanted to bring back into focus the story of this man.”

The documentary narrates Bimal's life through interviews with actors, technicians and filmmakers who worked closely with him.

We can also get a glimpse into Bimal’s formative years during his Kolkata New Theatre day, which boasts of having produced some of the finest technicians in the Indian film industry.

"All those technicians like Ritwik Ghatak spoke so highly of him,” says Joy.

So Joy's documentary is not just a tribute to the father he lost at the tender age of ten, but a chronicle for the Indian film industry.
