New Delhi: Ripples of the Raj Thackeray versus Bachchans standoff were felt in the Capital on Thursday – 10 Janpath it seemed was perturbed by the developments in Mumbai.
According to reports, before Raj Thackeray called off his stir against the Bachchans, Sonia was likely to seek an explanation from Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh regarding the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief’s “provocative” statements.
Congress Spokesperson Margaret Alva had earlier said that she had spoken to Sonia about the situation in Mumbai and that the UPA Chairperson was planning to look into the matter personally.
“I've met the Congress President and briefed her about the situation in Maharashtra. She is concerned and will be speaking to the Chief Minister. The government should look into the problem and not accelerate and threaten the lives of the people in Mumbai,” Alva said earlier on Thursday.
Sources say that Sonia is concerned about its political implications. After Congress embraced the Samajwadi Party, speculation has been rife on whether the political understanding would lead to a rapprochement between the Gandhis and Bachchans.
Meanwhile, many in political and social circles believe that Jaya's comments reflected her tendency to speak out of turn.
