Chennai: Sonia Gandhi and K Karunanidhi are two allies with two very different points of views when it comes to the Sri Lankan Tamil issue.
The two leaders and their respective parties swear solid partnership and unwavering loyalty but only May 16 will decide whether people will repose their faith in this forged alliance between the national level party and its regional ally.
Sonia shared the dais with DMK chief and Congress ally K Karunanidhi in Chennai on Sunday.
Sonia called the DMK chief and UPA ally Karunanidhi a loyal friend and a pillar of strength for UPA.
She reiterated that the DMK -UPA alliance will continue post elections, into the next term too.
While Karunanidhi chose to read out a poem he had written on LTTE leader Tamilselvam's death two years ago, Sonia chose to speak about the heartfelt need to ensure Tamil Sri Lankans are treated with equality in the island nation.
She said that the Congress is in favour of equality to the Tamils in Lank a within the frame work of 1987 peace accords.
