Sony launches the Xperia S in India at Rs 32,549

New Delhi: Sony Mobile India has launched its much-awaited Xperia S handset in Indian at a price of Rs 32,549. The Sony Xperia S is Sony's first smartphone under its brand name Sony Mobile Communications, after Sony acquired Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson's ("Ericsson") 50 per cent stake in the pair's former joint venture Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB ("Sony Ericsson").

The phone features a 4.3 inch scratch-resistant TFT touchscreen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It runs Google Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) operating system (upgradable to Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich).

The Xperia S is powered by a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm dual-core processor, and flaunts a 12.1 megapixel camera with auto focus, 16x digital zoom and LED flash. It also has a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera. The phone has 1GB RAM.

Other key features include WiFi and WiFi Hotspot functionality, HDMI Support, DLNA certified and NFC. The phone is also PlayStation certified.

The handset was first showcased at Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.

Besides, Sony also unveiled the Xperia P, Xperia U and Xperia Sola handsets, which will be available to consumers in Q2 of this year.
