New Delhi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha President Shibu Soren on Wednesday took over as the seventh Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
Soren, who was convicted by a trial court for the murder of his secretary Shashinath Jha but was later acquitted by the Delhi High Court, was administered oath of office and secrecy by Jharkhand Governor K Sankanarayanan by at the Morabadi ground in Ranchi.
BJP Jharkhand unit President Raghubar Das and All Jharkhand Students Union President Sudesh Mahato were sworn in as ministers.
But in Delhi family members of Shashinath Jha were furious and told CNN-IBN that the BJP's decision to back Soren has exposed the party's true colours.
"It will now become difficult for us to get justice. But the tragedy is that the present Prime Minister is called the most honest Prime Minister of India and if he had been honest than Shibu Soren would have been in jail. BJP has shown its hollowness by supporting Soren. The new BJP President has shown that he is ready to compromise and share power with tainted people," said Shashinath's brother Vijaynath Jha.
Shashinath's daughter Preeti hoped that her family would eventually get justice from the Supreme Court.
"I want the Supreme Court to give severe punishment to him (Soren). They shouldn't let him go just because he is a high-profile person and is now a Chief Minister," she said.
Mukesh Baba, co-petitioner in the alleged murder case of Shashinath, claimed that he had been receiving threats from Sorren and his associates.
"I have received lot of threats from Soren's side. In the High Court Hemant Soren told me that you will pay for whatever you are doing. Shibu Soren met me in the flight and warned me that 'I am a big don and you should not take up this matter'. A few days back a person close to him warned me not to fight the case otherwise they would implicate me in many false cases," claimed Baba.
The Supreme Court will hear the Shashi Nath murder case on March 8, 2010.
Shashinath was allegedly abducted by Soren's close aides in 1994 after he came to know about the alleged deal between the Congress and the JMM to save the then PV Narasimha Rao government in a no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha.
