New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday filed a 620-page chargesheet in the Soumya Vishwanathan murder case.

The chargesheet has been filed against the prime accused Ravi Kumar and four other – Ajay Sethi, Ravi Kapoor, Amit Kumar Shukla, Baljit Malik and Ajay Kumar.

The men did not intend to kill Soumya, their motive was to only rob her and they fired fatal bullet just to stop her. This is the explanation police have in the murder case.

“We have charged them for murder, destruction of evidence, criminal conspiracy, common intent and MCOCA,” says Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal.

Officials say the mobile phone details of the accused and 60 witnesses will help in proving that the accused were near the murder site at the time of Soumya's murder. But interestingly there is no one who has actually witnessed the entire incident.

“We have witnesses who almost saw the incident taking place,” adds Dhaliwal.

Apart from disclosures made by the accused the police has put on record the recovery of the WagonR used in the crime, the testimony of the alleged receiver of the car and the recovery of the murder weapon.

Police officials say the fact that the accused refused to undergo an identification parade might also strengthen the case.

Soumya, who was a TV journalist, was shot dead on September 30, 2008, while she was going back home after work.
