New Delhi: Nineteen freed South Korean hostages returned home early Sunday after a six-week kidnap drama in Afghanistan.
A senior Taliban leader reportedly said that the South Korean Government had paid $20 million for the release of the Christian volunteers.
The Government, though, has denied paying any ransom. It said it had only agreed to pull out personnel from Afghanistan and end South Korean missionary work there in return for the release of the hostages.
Taliban insurgents had kidnapped 23 South Koreans in mid-July and also killed two hostages.
The nineteen hostages are expected to undergo medical checks and reunite with their families later in the day.
