New Delhi: Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal have chickened out over the move to bring no-confidence motion against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad on Wednesday morning developed the cold feet after realising that they don't even have the support of 50 MPs to sign the notice to move the no-confidence motion.

"There is no decision on no-confidence motion. This is wrong. We have not been given time by President's office to meet her today (Wednesday). Our battle is still on," said Lalu.

"We don't have the numbers to move a no-confidence motion as of now. There are no plans to meet the President today," added Mulayam.

They also denied reports that they were planning to meet President Pratibha Patil to formally withdraw support to the UPA after being snubbed by the Congress over the Women's Reservation Bill.

But sources indicated that the Yadavs are still in touch with various parties including the Shiv Sena on the no-confidence motion plot.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Akhtar who was suspended for creating ruckus on Monday in the House, claimed that the two parties had discussed the plan to bring in a no-confidence motion.

"We discussed no-confidence motion yesterday (Tuesday). But we have to talk to leaders and find out about the numbers. The government is not even ready for discussion. The Dalits and Muslims should be given the right to quota in Women's Reservation Bill. Lalu and Mulayam have decided on no-confidence motion. We are in talks with Mamata Banerjee and other leaders to support us," said Akhtar.

The Samajwadi Party has 22 and RJD has four members in the 543-member Lok Sabha.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party had refused to support the Yadavs saying it was too early for a no-confidence motion.
