Vidhyanchal (Uttar Pradesh): The Bachchans were in Mirzapur on Saturday to celebrate Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's birthday and to perform a pre-nuptial ceremony for Aishwarya and Abhishek at the Vindhyavasini temple.
With vermillion tilaks on the foreheads of Bollywood's first family it seems even the build-up to the Abhishek-Aishwarya marriage is turning out to be a blockbuster.
“They have taken the prasad in the form of sindoor. However, the wedding did not take place today,” priest of Vindhayvasini temple, Rajan Pathak says.
The rituals and the couple’s visit to UP coincided with Amar Singh's 51st birthday. A mass wedding had been organised on Singh’s special day where UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has just won a floor test in the state Assembly, was also present.
With Samajwadi Party colours screaming out for attention, 51 Scheduled Caste couples got married at the mass wedding. However, no one seemed to be raising eyebrows over some of the brides who clearly seemed under-aged.
“I study in sixth standard,” one of the brides told CNN-IBN.
Obviously, the political ambition is to upstage the Bahujan Samaj Party which has performed better in UP's Purvanchal and so, such details about the age of the brides did not seem to be considered.
As the Bachchan family depends on the clout of UP's ruling party to get their pre-nuptial rituals completed, the SP seems to be converting these rituals into political events.
And the party is definitely riding on the Bachchans with the Big B featuring on the advertisement showcasing the glories of Uttam Pradesh. Also, the Yash Bharati award by the UP government that was bestowed on Abhishek seems a bit too early in his career.
These events are helping change Mulyam Singh and SP's image as overtly pro-Muslim in the state. With the Chief Minister taking the holy dip at Prayag and his presence at the revered eastern-UP temple, the party does is sending the right political signals to the Hindu electorate.
