'SP trying to foment communal tensions'

Allahabad: After its leaders being prevented from visiting violence-hit Gorakhpur, the BJP on Tuesday accused the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh of fomenting communal tensions.

"It is shocking that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav is preventing our leaders from even visiting a place in throes of communal tension," Rajya Sabha MP Kalraj Mishra said.

Criticising the arrest of party MP from Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath, on Monday and detention of state BJP chief Keshri Nath Tripathi near Gorakhpur, Mishra alleged that SP government was trying to augment its vote bank by fomenting communal tensions.

Claiming that BJP leaders would keep heading towards Gorakhpur and see how many of them the administration is capable of rounding up, he said the party would also launch a 10-day campaign from February 1 to caution the people against divisive policies of the Samajwadi Party.

"The recent communal tensions in Mau, Aligarh and Meerut bear testimony to this. The state government has surrendered before Islamic terrorism and crossed all limits in its bid to appease Muslims," he alleged.

He also accused the administration of the killing of a BJP-supporter businessman, which sparked off the violence, saying "signals were not heeded during the violent agitations by one community to protest Saddam Hussein's execution".
