New Delhi: In the most definite public statement so far, Samajwadi Party General Secretary, Amar Singh has told CNN-IBN that they will give their full support to the Congress-led Government in case there is a Vote of Confidence in Parliament and should the Left pull out.
He was speaking to CNN-IBN's Karan Thapar on Devil's Advocate. He also said the SP is fully supportive of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal.
Karan Thapar: One month, two month, three month down the road if the Prime Minister were to ask for support on the deal, would the Samajwadi party vote in favour of the deal?
Amar Singh: We would definitely do that because we are not playing any politics. Mr Vinod Mehta, my friend and editor of a famous English weekly said that we are different category of fish that we will blackmail; we will try to extract our pound of flesh. Through you Karan, I want tell there is no pound; there is no flesh. I am not supporting Congress, Manmohan or Soniaji. I am supporting a national cause as professed by Dr Kalam.
Karan Thapar: And that national cause is the deal?
Amar Singh: In today's context and present circumstances yes.
Karan Thapar: And if comes to a vote on floor of Parliament, you would vote for the deal?
Amar Singh: Yes, of course.
Karan Thapar: Will you vote in favour of the government to prevent early elections?
Amar Singh: 100 per cent.
Karan Thapar: 100 per cent?
Amar Singh: Yes.
Karan Thapar: There is no question of any doubt?
Amar Singh: No question of any doubt.
Karan Thapar: Do you have serious differences on issues that could endanger this government?
Amar Singh: Yes, there are issues.
Karan Thapar: So price rise, inflation and the attitude of the Petroleum Ministry are all sticking points where you have serious differences with the government.
Amar Singh: Very serious differences.
Karan Thapar: And on those issues, if the government doesn't handle them properly you could in fact withdraw support at some point.
Amar Singh: I am not saying that. But anything may happen.
Karan Thapar: Anything may happen? In other words you are repeating once again that at the moment this is not unconditional support. It is issue based and secondly there are some issues on which you have serious differences where anything may happen.
Amar Singh: It will not happen but it may happen
Karan Thapar: There is therefore a question mark. There is a little room for problem.
Amar Singh: If you say so, it is.
