New Delhi: The Delhi Government has decided to make tomatoes available at a subsidised rate of Rs 20 per kg at its kiosks in Azadpur, Okhla, Ghazipur and Keshavpur markets across the Capital.
These government operated stalls, which will be functional from Saturday, will sell tomatoes at Rs 20 per kilo.
The market price is Rs 40 per kilo.
The decision was announced by State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Rajkumar Chauhan on Friday after he reviewed the situation. The ministry has also instructed its officials to conduct regular inspections of the wholesale markets to prevent hoarding.
However, there have been no indications by the state government to make tomatoes available at Rs 20 per kg in the Mother Dairies as of now.
Reports are also suggesting that government might bring down the prices of tomatoes further from Rs 20 per kilo to Rs 15-18 per kilo at these select counters.
