New Delhi: Yet another suicide at the infamous Janakpuri district centre in West Delhi has brought back some bad memories.
After 7 suicide deaths in less than a year, the district centre has become notorious as the ‘death centre.’ On Thursday a man suffering from depression jumped to his death.
The high-rise complex has offices, shops and a mall in the vicinity. But it’s not the bustling business that makes news about this place. But rather the unusual deaths that have occurred one after the other.
Last year, it was three suicides in less than 20 days and five in four months. People say, the building is either cursed or haunted. “We are shocked with this death. Even the police says that we should change the name of this complex from district centre to the death centre," said OP Arora an employee of the District Centre.
To stop people from jumping off the building, grills were fixed in all its balconies. But people were shocked to see the man (who died this Thursday) squeezing himself through the narrow gap and finally jumping to his death.
The grills have in fact unknowingly opened the door to bigger problems. “What if a fire breaks in here? Where will the people escape from? The grills can be major obstacle for the fire brigade to reach,” said Anil Sharma Vice-President, Janakpuri District Centre Welfare Association.
So where is the solution? What one feels after walking around the place is that vigil has to be increased by hiring more security guards. Otherwise incidents such as these are likely to continue.
