New Delhi: In yet another hit and run case in the capital, a family of five died when a speeding Scorpio car hit their Maruti 800 late on Thursday night.
Those killed included two children.
Head of the family, 78-year old Angan Ram Garg was numb with grief. He has lost five young members of his family in the gruesome accident in the Northwest Delhi's Kanhaiyanagar area.
Garg says, “Mera sab kuch khatam ho gaya (I am devastated).”
Rakesh Garg, his wife and their children were returning home from a wedding, when a speeding Scorpio rammed into their Maruti 800.
Their sons, 21-year-old Mukul, 11-year-old Rishab and their 14-year-old niece Thanvi, who was also in the car, died on the spot. Rakesh and Uma died on the way to the hospital.
Angry residents took to the streets in Kanhaiyanagr, protesting the police's failure to nab the driver of the Scorpio. Police now say they have nabbed the suspect, who is reportedly a DJ in Rohini.
Police are also interrogating a few others including the owner of the vehicle.
DCP Northwest NS Bundela says, "We have tracked the suspect through the owner of the vehicle. We are interrogating a few people to verify the identity of the driver. We have booked under section 304."
The killer vehicle has been impounded by the police and a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered.
