New Delhi: Living in the National Capital Region could well mean - living dangerously.

In a shocking fact five murders occurred in the NCR region in just a span of 15 hours. On Wednesday evening around 2000 hrs IST a cable operator was shot dead in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Just four hours later at midnight a property dealer was murdered in east Delhi.

At 0730 hrs IST on Thursday a milkman was stabbed with a pair of scissors over a dispute of Rs 1700 and around the same time another person was bludgeoned to death with a stone in Dabri area of Delhi.

At 0800 hrs IST another property dealer was gunned down outside a school in Gurgaon in Haryana.

All incidents reaffirm that the crime rate in NCR has taken a turn for the worse.

Delhi alone has recorded 330 cases of rape and molestation in the last four months with 14 rape cases being reported in April itself.

Over 60 cases of murder have been reported in Noida and Ghaziabad and over 350 cases of theft and looting have also come to light a majority of which took place in Noida.

But police officials still feel that the situation is under control.

Delhi's Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Anil Shukla says, "There is a lot of crime but we are still one up. We have cracked a lot of cases and we will be able to control the situation."

Increase in crime rate is almost synonymous with a developing society and one upmanship of the police is the key to ensure the safety of the citizens.

But if one keeps the statistics of the last three months in mind the police in the NCR region surely has a lot of catching up to do.
