Spirit of Afghanistan captured in film

Mumbai: Filmmaker Soumitra Ranade who made his debut with the kiddie flick Jagantaram Mantaram made sure that his documentary Khoob Asti Afghanistan? or Are you alright Afghanistan? was a different and a personal take on what he calls his second home.

After having spent his teenage years in Kabul, Ranade wanted to chronicle the changes that took place in Afghanistan since his family returned to India in 1980.

The film chronicles his visit to his old neighbourhood of Chauraya Ansari in Central Kabul, where he lived for four years.

And what he saw there came as a surprise. "I saw that the spirit of the people was still intact,” says Ranade.

He also shares a small tip on how to shoot in Afghanistan.

Says Ranade, “I picked up abuses and that's the best way to break ice.”

Khoob Asti Afghanistan? was screened at the Indian Film festival at Los Angeles and Ranade plans on sending the documentary to different film festivals.
