From being a symbol of modesty to becoming a perfect fashion accessory, dupattas have come a long way in a woman’s wardrobe today. Multi-coloured, shaded, painted, patterned, embroidered, mirrored, netted - these gorgeous drapes have it in them to change the entire look of an outfit.
Available in different fabrics and varying between a price range of Rs 100 and as high as Rs 3000 - dupattas go great with ethnic outfits like salwar kameez or a ghagra choli and also do justice to the indo-ethnic look when taken with a pair of kurti and leggings/jeans or with just a tee and jeans, although a stole pairs up better with jeans.
In fact, for summers, stoles are in demand. Stoles, which can be called a westernised dupatta, are lighter and easier to handle and gel well not just with kurtis but also t-shirts, tunics and even frocks. Besides the plain colourful ones, stoles with embellishments like beads, sequins, buttons and sparkling stones can help one sport a funky look this summer. Even the draping style of a stole can make a new fashion statement.
The options available in the city are aplenty. While super malls like Pantaloons, Max or Lifeware offer you a decent collection of stoles and simple dupattas, Fab India gives you the choicest in terms of designer cotton and silk dupattas but for a good price, while Mehers has an equally good collection of Sambalpuri dupattas, exclusive to Odisha.
There are also quite a few boutiques in the city that deal in designer dupattas. Dolly Parekh of Dolliz Kasba, a boutique in Bomikhal says, they get special orders for dupattas on a regualr basis.
A good collection, however, could weigh heavy on your pocket. In case you aren’t keen to shell out a big amount and still wish to have an envious collection, there are quite a few places in the city you can head to. Market building has a couple of small dupatta corners with an amazing collection besides Kalamandir and Narula.
Even Priyardarshini market complex at CRP has a few shops that deal exclusively in dupattas. These shops offer you everything - plain chiffons in wide colour range, net dupattas with bead works, painted ones, cotton wrinkled ones, bandhnis and that too at a reasonable price.
So, go ahead, take your pick, mix and match and sport a new look this summer!
