Musician Phil Collins' divorce finally came through this weekend with wife number three 35 year old Orianne Cevey. But the singer had to shell out $46 million in compensation to his wife, making it the most expensive divorce settlement in the UK.
Collins' divorce trumped the previous record holder Sir Paul McCartney's divorce to Heather Mills by $2 million, as he had to pay $44 million as compensation to Mills.
Apart from UK, the following are the top five break-ups ever:
Neil Diamond
Popstar of the 60's, Neil Diamond tops the list with his 1994's divorce settlement. Diamond had to pay $150 million to his wife of 25 years, Marcia Murphey.
Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg might be one of the most bankable filmmakers ever, but it seems his former wife almost cleaned out his bank accounts with a $100 million in settlement post their 1989 divorce.
Harrison Ford
Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford got a raw deal after his 21 year old marriage with Melissa Mathison fell apart in 2004. Not only did Mathison walk away with $85 million as indemnity, she was also entitled to future earnings from films made during their period as man and wife.
Kevin Costner
Actor Kevin Costner's college sweetheart and former wife Cindy Silva gave him a lot of heartburn when she walked away with $80 million in divorce settlement back in 1994.
James Cameron
His film, Titanic was one of the biggest grossers ever, but in 1998 Director James Cameron's marriage with Linda Hamilton sunk much like the Titanic. And his wife of 18 months left him poorer by $50 million.
These high-profile divorces certainly imply that marriages aren't always made in heaven.
