Thiruvananthapuram: The interrogation of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba's South Indian commander Thadiyantavila Naseer has brought the spot light back on Kerala's oldest separatist leader Abdul Nasser Madani of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Though the police don't have much evidence to directly link Nazeer with Madani, Nazeer's confession has given investigators new leads.
The arrest of Lashker terrorist and Bangalore blast mastermind Nazeer has opened a Pandora's box in Kerala politics.
The focus is once again on the extremist links of Madani, once accused in the 1993 Coimbatore blasts case. Nazeer has confessed to his involvement in the burning of a Bus in Ernakulam in 2005, in which Madani's wife Sufia, had been named one of the main conspirators. Madani though refutes all charges
"Me and my wife have no involvement with any terror organisation. We have no connections with this guy Nazeer and my wife has no involvement in any case in which he is also an accused. Anyways we are ready for any investigation," says Madani.
But fearing arrest Madani's wife has applied for anticipatory bail.
Nazeer, meanwhile, has been taken by a joint team of Kerala and Karntaka police to Kannur.
Nazeer has reportedly confessed that he procured raw material for bombs used in the Bangalore and Ahmedabad blasts from Kerala ad that he had set up a well oiled recruiting network for the Lashker in the state.
Kerala police have picked up four men based on Nazeer's confessions.
"We are looking at all angles in the case. All activities of Naseer will be throughly probed. Naseer's links with everyone will be investigated, even if the concerned people are powerful," says Kannur range IG Tomin Thachankary.
If Naseer's involvement with Madani is proven, it could leave the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist red faced.
The CPI-M had an unofficial alliance with Madani's PDP during the Lok Sabha election and its State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had even shared the stage with Madani.
