RAJAHMUNDRY: A spurned lover slit the throat of a girl at Burugugunta in Narendrapuram panchayat of P Gannavaram mandal on Friday. The girl also received injuries on her hands, stomach and other parts of the body in the attack.
According to the police, Kolli Kiran Kumar (22), son of Nageswara Rao, fell in love with M Dhanalakshmi (18) two years ago. On knowing Kiran’s moves, her parents who are agricultural workers, rejected the marriage proposal and took the issue to the notice of village elders. They held a panchayat and settled the issue.
Later, the girl joined the polytechnic at Ravulapalem. She came to her village one week ago for summer vacation. Kiran, an SC, attacked the girl while she was returning after attending nature’s call. She was immediately admitted to the area hospital in Amalapuram. Later, the girl was shifted to the Government General Hospital in Kakinada. Her condition is stated to be stable. Kiran is at large.
Based on a complaint lodged by her father Krishna Murthi, a case was registered against Kiran. P Gannavaram sub-inspector James Ratna Prasad is investigating.
