Bangalore: A Sri Lankan ative, Sinthujan Jeyakumar, came to Bangalore four days back after a struggle to get out of LTTE-ridden conflict zone for his surgery. He went through a heart valve transplant eight years after being born with a defective heart valve.
“I want to run and play like other children. I like to play cricket,” says Sinthujan.
For his family, the life in his frail body is enough to make up for all the troubles of the last few years.
The family is stuck in LTTE war zone with barely any access to transport or doctors. Sinthujan’s father pushed him on a cycle to move from village to village when their home was shelled time and again. In the last month, their home was displaced six times.
“Whenever there was shelling, we would run from our homes to the next village. But after a few days, that home too would get destroyed and we would pick up whatever we can and run again, sometimes walking more than eight kilometers at a stretch,” says Sinthujan’s father Jeyakumar.
Doctors at the Manipal hospital have dealt with complex heart problems before but this patient didn't ask them the usual question about diets to be followed.
“He was asking me about the explosion of bomb and the sound and shock would it affect his heart,” says Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Manipal Hospital
Dr Prasad Krishnan.
