Srinagar: The 200-year-old Sufi shrine of Dastageer Sahib went up in flames early on Monday morning. Several fire tenders have been rushed to the location to douse the flames at the shrine mostly made up of wood, officials said.
There was tension across the town as the shrine of Peer Dastageer Sahib is highly revered in Kashmir. Authorities say the fire began from four areas of the shrine taking over most of the roof, but there was still no word on the cause.
The police and locals were also assisting in the operation to douse the fire, officials added.
The main relic inside the sanctum sanatorium is reportedly safe.
