Srinagar: In the Capital of Jammu and Kashmir, it’s usually grenades and gunfire that rule the airwaves.
But things are fast changing and Srinagar is tuning into a new voice – a frequency that plays music of love and peace.
Radio Kashmir, that was launched on December 18, has the city hooked to its radio sets.
This is not the only first to Srinagar’s credit. Radio Kashmir’s RJ Sara is also the first female radio jockey of the city.
“I have two shows that I will be doing - Sara ka sara jehan which is basically a women achievers show and has three segments. First hour is about messages of the people and to whom they want to send and the second segment has a guest, an achiever,'' she says.
Operating out of a makeshift, two-room set up for now, the FM station has already created a quite a buzz.
“We have got calls from Pulwama, Kokernag, Shopian and other far-flung places,” says Programme Executive, Parvez Malik.
From film music to public issues, this frequency is surely proving to be music to everybody’s ears.
