Srinagar: The hunt for that elusive genuine fast bowler continued for team India and this time it took former Indian paceman Javagal Srinath to Kashmir.

For a change it was the sound of the ball hitting the bat and not bullets coming out of an AK 47 that reverberated in the Valley.

About 400-odd youngsters bowled their hearts out at the picturesque Sher-i-Kashmir stadium.

Srinath was in the Valley scouting for potential fast bowlers. The youngsters went through the session with gusto, as Srinath’s trained eyes, looked for that raw talent which could be refined to make a genuine fast bowler.

Manzoor Wazir, the Vice Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association was ecstatic at this one of a kind event in the Valley.

On being selected, the potential weapons of the Indian pace line-up will get a chance to nurture their talent at the MRF Pace Academy in Chennai.

The man who is said to be Kashmir's answer to Shoaib Akhtar was there too.

Abid Nabi has a good physique, a perfect run up and a really fast delivery, and with him Kashmiri cricket seems to have arrived finally.

And if Srinath was impressed, we may have a real gem to look forward to.
