Kolkata: Shah Rukh Khan is back in Kolkata and there are no prizes for guessing why.
King Khan's IPL team will be called the Kolkata Knight Riders. He said the idea behind the name was that it would appeal to the country’s youth.
With international stars like Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting and Shoaib Akhtar in their ranks, the excitement levels are rising by the day.
SRK also released the team's official song and playing shirts.
The colours of the team are black and gold, symbolising the goddesss Kali – revered by Bengalis – and the mark of victory, respectively.
"Black is the colour of goddess Kali and we aim for gold," said Shah Rukh Khan at the inauguration, where he also promised that he would learn Bengali.
"Sourav has promised to teach me," he laughed.
SRK said he would don the team’s colours and even 'help the players with water in the field when required'.
The team's mascot is a Royal Bengal Tiger called "Hoog Lee".
SRK is clearly going all out for his team as he revealed that a Knight Rider album was scheduled to be cut and would boast of names like Usha Uthup and Bappi Lahiri.
A slick advertising campaign has also been released to promote the team which will be led by Ganguly and have John Buchanan as its coach.
“We are here to win the battle of life. You don’t win the silver, you only lose the gold. It’s a maxim that I have followed in my life and I’ve been fortunate enough that it has served me well and I would like that maxim to be passed on to the youngsters and that’s why the maxim or main theme of our team is Korbo, Lorbo, Jitbo,” said Shah Rukh. The maxim translates as ‘We will do it, fight it and win it’.
