St Stephen's wins HT Leadership debate

New Delhi: After hosting four debates in Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata, the fourth regional final of the Hindustan Times Leadership Debate was held in Sri Ram College of Commerce in the Capital.

More than 30 teams from different colleges came to participate in the Delhi round. The preliminary round which started at 1000 hrs IST on Saturday saw some intese arguments and the judges had a hard time narrowing down on the final six.

After seven hours of debating, six Delhi University teams made it to the final round. The topic of the debate was whether it is time to turn aspirations into agression.

Every student came up with his own interpretation of the topic. From Marx and Hegel to Gandhi, the students used every theory in the book to convince the jury - comprising of Resident Editor of Hindustan Times, Yashwant Raj, and author and advertising professional, Anuja Chauhan.

And no one had it easy. After every speech, both judges and participants fired a series of questions at the speaker and some answers were equally hard hitting.

Finally it was the team for St Stephen's College which finally walked away with the cheque of Rs 25,000. They will will now be competing with teams from Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata in the grand finale to be held in the Capital on October 26.
