Stable prices during rising inflation give ho

Shreya Dhoundial, CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Prices of pulses, edible oils and vegetables may have stabilised and there's hope that they will come down soon as well, despite the fact that inflation rose week on week, as the numbers released on Friday tell.

Is life as perfect as this ripe tomato? Not for a housewife like Rajeev Jaiswal. The last three months have seen the prices of everything from edible oil to eggs shoot through the roof.

“Egg, bread…everything costs so much more now,” she complains.

But there may be some good news round the corner because even though inflation has gone up from 7.14 to 7.33 percent this week, prices of essentials food items seem to be in control.

  • Potatoes and onions are static at Rs 8-10
  • Lady finger is down from Rs 30 to 28

A five-kg packet of wheat shot up from Rs 80 to 110 rupees in the last two months but is now steady

Similarly, the price of one litre of edible oil, which went up from Rs 80 to 110 in the last month or so is now static.

But one item which continues to soar is the all important rice, sometimes by Rs 2 per kg every week.
