Stars drop their straps for Oscars

New Delhi: The writers strike may have left us starved for some serious red carpet action, but the 80th Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles more than made up for it.

The stars dropped the straps, brought the bling, caught our eye and did their thing. The Oscar Red Carpet was all about dropping brand names.

Understandably, the stars had their reasons for what they wore on the red carpet. Actor, Saoirse Ronan, Actor says, "This is Alberta Feretti. I chose green because I am Irish. I wanted to walk down the red carpet of the Oscars and let everyone know that I am Irish. It is kind of a Celtic thing."

On the other hand, Helen Mirren chose to look powerful. She says, "I have a lovely stylist who had this dress made for me by Jordan Chopra a Lebanese designer. I didn't know whether it was going to work out or not. There were a couple of beautiful alternatives. I put this on and to me it was dramatic and grand and powerful."

However, it was just strapless gown, after strapless gown after yet more strapless gowns, which made people wonder if it was a group thing.

Miley Cyrus showed up wearing a red Valentino chiffon gown, while Jennifer Garner donned a Oscar de la Renta dress with 136 carats of Van Cleef jewellery and Best actress winner Marion Cotillard looked stunning in a skin-tight white beaded gown accompanied by a Swarovski designed white crystal leather clutch.

Adding colour to the spice were Heidi Klum, Katherine Heigl, Helen Mirren, Anne Hathaway and Cameron Diaz who all opted for bright show-stopping dresses.

Armani was the favourite for most men including George Clooney

The ‘Mommy Brigade’, included Jessica Alba, who looked stunning in a Marchesa feathered dress, and Nicole Kidman who proudly showed her baby bump under a black fitted gown, followed closely by a very pregnant Cate Blanchett.

However, missing in action however, were these million dollar shoes designed by Stuart Weitzman that Juno scribe Diablo Cody was slated to wear.

“That was a cheesy publicity stunt that had nothing to do with me. Not true,” says Diablo Cody.
