Producers' Guild Awards in Mumbai

Mumbai: Sunday evening in Mumbai turned out to be a red carpet invitation to Bollywood, the occasion was the 2008 Producers' Guild Awards. Shah Rukh ruled the evening by grabbing the Best Actor For Chak De India, Akshay Kumar latched on to the Best Entertainer of the year. Kareena took home the Best Actress for her performance in Jab We Met.

And star couple, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padhukone won the Best Newcomer Award yet again.

"It feels great, I worked really hard on Saawariya, and when your work is appreciated it's heart warming, this one goes with the other, and I'll sleep peacefully tonight, says Ranbir.

Deepika says, "It's a wonderful feeling that my first film is winning so many awards, so thank you everyone."

The film of the evening was clearly Chak De India which took Best Film and Best Director, in addition to its producer Yash Chopra being felicitated with an award for Outstanding Contribution to cinema.

Voted for by professionals from the industry itself, these awards threw up no surprises at all, except that there was no mention of Taare Zameen Par, but that is because, only films that released before the November 30 were eligible, so expect Taare Zameen Par to shine at next year's awards.
