New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta has tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for violation of its order halting all further construction at various memorial sites of Dalit leaders in Lucknow.

The state Chief Secretary tendered the apology in an affidavit filed on Saturday to the apex court registry.

Gupta is facing contempt of court proceedings for violating the September 8 order of the Supreme Court.

The court had asked the Uttar Pradesh government to halt further construction at all memorial sites in Lucknow.

He is slated to appear before the apex court on Wednesday to answer the charges of criminal contempt of court.
