To regulate the prices of essential commodities and vegetables in the open market and to prevent hoarding during Onam season inspection will be carried out in all districts headed by the respective District Collectors. Revenue, Police, sales tax and excise department will jointly conduct the raid.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting on food security, which was chaired by Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan.
The Minister said that to supply vegetables at fair prices 60 more Horticorp stalls would be started across the state. Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (VFPCK) will start 118 outlets.
Cooperative Minister C N Balakrishnan said that the Consumerfed had already started 4,382 stalls across the state.
This will be increased to 5,000 and during the Onam season.
Supplyco will distribute 17 lakhs kits to BPL families. Also, meat from MPI will be distributed through Supplyco outlets in the state.
Planning Board secretary Subarto Biswas, Food Department secretary Pradeep Kumar, Agriculture secretary K R Jyotilal and Managing directors of Horticorp, Consumerfed, VFPCK and Kepco participated in the meeting.
