The 200-kg sculpture will be installed near the student hostel and lit up in the evenings.

"We have opened an exhibition of 25 works that were selected for the final," the spokeswoman said, adding that it will be opened at least until Sep 6.

The winner will be chosen by a jury of St. Petersburg IT experts and by an online vote.

Soon after Jobs's death October 5, 2011, a bronze monument to him was unveiled in Budapest, Hungary, while the tiny Brazilian town of Jundiai near Sao Paulo named a street after him.

The city hall of the Ukrainian city of Odessa also announced plans to unveil a monument to the late Apple founder. The two-meter, hand-shaped steel memorial has a hole in the centre in the shape of the Apple's trademark logo.

The 200-kg sculpture will be installed near the student hostel and lit up in the evenings, the city's authorities said.
